The ecological bonus was expected to become less generous in 2025, but the French government did not wait until the new year to tighten the rules, for both individuals and professionals. For companies, the bonus on utility vehicles has simply been removed. What alternatives are available for companies committed to the energy transition? What can you expect in 2025? Here is what you need to know!
Removal of the ecological bonus for electric utility vehicles in 2025
For several years now, the ecological bonus has been an important financial lever to support companies in their energy transition. It reduces the purchase cost of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, while encouraging the renewal of professional fleets.
Put simply, since 2 December 2024, the ecological bonus for legal entities (companies, local authorities, etc.) has been completely removed, in accordance with decree no. 2024-1084. In its place, energy savings certificates (CEE) are now the main source of support, especially for new light commercial vehicles (LCVs), with a bonus of up to €4,200-4,450, multiplied by 4 for some vehicles, and €470-525 for passenger cars.
This support is paid directly by energy suppliers (known as "obligated parties") and can be deducted from the purchase price or included in the long-term lease payment.
Impacts and new support planned for companies
For companies, one of the main consequences is a higher total acquisition cost for electric utility vehicles. Without the ecological bonus, the purchase price could hold back some fleet renewal projects. SMEs and very small businesses are likely to be hit hardest, as they generally have tighter budgets. However, large companies, often committed to corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies, may maintain their investments to meet their environmental commitments and improve their brand image.
The CEE scheme in place since 2025 offers:
- LCVs: bonuses of €2,600-3,200, or even up to €4,200 depending on fleet size and the ×4 multiplier
- Passenger cars: around €470-525. This support is paid by energy suppliers and replaces the public bonus
👀 A new "private" bonus via CEE could be made official in July 2025, following the next ministerial order.
The CEE scheme is already a concrete solution, but it remains essential to anticipate this possible change in mid-2025 to optimise companies' electrification strategy.
